"Tháng 3 năm 1975, dòng sông Vàm Cỏ Đông chứng kiến những trận đánh ngăn chặn nghẹt thở nhằm mở đường cho đại quân tiến về Sài Gòn. Đơn vị công binh bến phà của chúng tôi phải liên tục kết bè, bắc cầu phao để đưa pháo hạng nặng qua sông dưới làn pháo tầm xa của kẻ thù nã về liên tục.
Before entering the river crossing battle, the young soldier named Dinh, who came from Nam Dinh, pulled out his dagger at his hip. He meticulously carved into the wooden butt of the AK rifle the line: 'Máu có thể chảy, cầu phao không thể đứt'. That knife carving from the time of the fire flower was deep and decisive like the unyielding oath of youth. Dinh told me: 'Carving this so that each time I hug the gun and rush to the riverbank, seeing the letters makes my hand steadier, not afraid of the enemy's shelling or rough waves.'
Dinh heroically sacrificed himself that very night when he threw himself into the swift current to hold fast a bridge segment that had broken its anchor due to artillery fire. He remained with the river, but his gun with the carved words was still handed down by comrades to fight, bringing tens of thousands of soldiers to the other side, becoming a symbol of resilient, indomitable will."
