"Trưa ngày 30 tháng 4 năm 1975, mũi tiến công thần tốc của cánh quân hướng Nam chúng tôi đánh chiếm và làm chủ hoàn toàn khu trung tâm Bộ tư lệnh Biệt khu Thủ đô Sài Gòn. Khi những loạt súng kháng cự cuối cùng của địch im bặt, cả không gian bừng lên một bầu không khí náo nức, vỡ òa đến tột cùng của ngày hội lớn. Đồng bào từ các ngả đường ùa ra, cờ hoa rực rỡ đón chào quân giải phóng.

I stepped down from the armored vehicle, sweat mixed with road dust blackening my face, and looked down at my issued Poljot wristwatch. The watch glass was covered in scratches after many campaign seasons crossing the Truong Son, but the second hand still stubbornly jumped each tick, pointing to exactly 11:30 AM. Right at that magnificent moment, the liberation flag flew proudly on top of the central building.

That watch from the time of the fire flower seemed to pin down a great historical milestone of the entire nation. Thirty years of arduous long march, division, and sacrifice officially closed completely at that moment. The time of guns and bullets receded into the past, giving way to a new era – the era of independence, freedom, and peaceful unification of the nation."
