As a young person born when the country had already known peace, I must admit that in the past, history for me was sometimes just dry numbers or long paragraphs that needed to be memorized. However, when I truly immersed myself in the flow of the 1930–1945 period – the "15 golden years" full of upheaval – I suddenly realized that history does not stay still in textbooks. It is still "breathing," present vividly, and evokes strong emotions. The story of Nguyễn Ái Quốc and the national liberation journey during this period is not just a matter of the past, but a great lesson on thinking, vision, and aspiration for us today.
Going back in time to 1930, when the country was immersed in the long night of slavery, the event of Nguyễn Ái Quốc chairing the congress to unify communist organizations and establish the Communist Party of Vietnam was not just a political milestone. Through my perspective, it was the beginning of the greatest "start-up" in Vietnam's history – where the "capital" was patriotism and the "strategy" was the correct revolutionary path. Thanks to this leading flag, the 1930–1931 movement, reaching its peak with the Nghệ Tĩnh Soviet, erupted, proving the tremendous latent power of the working people when they were organized and led.
The next period from 1936 to 1939 was a grand rehearsal on democracy. But my emotions truly erupted at the milestone of 1941. After 30 years traveling across the five continents and four seas, Nguyễn Ái Quốc returned to Pác Bó. I imagine the moment when he bent down to kiss the homeland’s soil – it was a sacred connection between a great person and the nation's roots. Here, the 8th Central Committee meeting took place, and the Viet Minh Front was born. He saw the opportunity while the world was in turmoil – a sharp strategic mindset that any young person would long to learn from.
And then, the brilliant climax arrived: the August Revolution of 1945. From the fate of slaves, the entire nation "rose from the mud to shine brightly." On September 2, 1945, at the sunlit Ba Đình Square, President Hồ Chí Minh's voice read the Declaration of Independence. It was not only a firm declaration to the world about the right to live and the right to freedom but also a "commitment" of responsibility passed from the previous generation to the next.
Looking back at those 15 years, I cannot help but question myself. If I lived in that "precarious" situation, with hunger, poverty, and the whip always looming, would I have enough courage to move forward? What makes me "take my hat off" to Nguyễn Ái Quốc is his iron belief – an unshakable "mindset" about national independence. He was persistent, patient, and never stepped back, even when the road ahead was shrouded in fog.
The lesson from the 1930–1945 period for our Gen Z is not empty words. Loving the country in peacetime does not necessarily mean taking up arms. Loving the country today is studying seriously to bring Vietnamese intellect to the world, living disciplined lives, daring to start businesses, create, and contribute. History is a support, a springboard for the spirit. Whenever I face difficulties, thinking about his 30 years of wandering and 15 years of arduous struggle, I see my challenges as very small.
Tell myself that me and my friends – the 10A4 generation – will live brightly, bravely, and do our best every day, so that everything we do can honor and continue the great legacy that our ancestors gave with their sweat, tears, and blood.
